Harrow County, Volume 2: Twice Told
Harrow County, Volume 2: Twice Told | Cullen Bunn
14 posts | 25 read | 1 to read
After uncovering Harrow County's twisted history and her bizarre connection to the populace, Emmy forges a new and profound connection to the land and its monsters--but a familiar and sinister presence lurks just over the county lines... Collects issues #5-#8 of "Harrow County." ""Harrow County" is that landscape painting that hangs above your country kitchen table brought to life and infused with palpable evil by way of the devil himself. Bunn and Crook are co-conspirators in a genuinely frightening conspiracy of lies and nightmares that belies the inviting, alluvial visuals immediately apparent. Its a rare feat to be able to convey real dread and yes, horror in this medium, but "Harrow Country" absolutely relishes in causing you crypticunease as you find yourself unable to look away. Without a doubt, pick this up and prepare yourself to listen to the silence give way to the flutter of crows wings give way to the crackle of dried leaves underfoot give way to the unending whispers." I can‘t get enough of the Harrow County series. I flew through volume one and quickly picked up volume two. I saved this panel because I have rarely heard or read someone say “I‘ll be out directly.” I think I‘m going to bring it back and say it amongst my social circles. 🤭

Continuing with this great series. Emma gets a visitor, her twin sister! But her sister is not who she appears to be! Evil is afoot! At first the comic was making me feel weirdly uncomfortable with her sister, but it got so much better at the end. Ah to be vindicated! Good art and perfect for any horror lover.

1. 28, I think.
2. Harrow County.
3. Hm.. I don't know. Nothing sticks out.
4. Though I never got to them in time, the ones to guess movies were fun.
5. Well, we were going to go trick-or-treating, but the kiddo decided she didn't want to. 🤷‍♀️

Book Two of this graphic horror novel series finds Emmy coming to terms with her past and her place in the county‘s history when another young woman with Emmy‘s face arrives. The book still has some stunning art as it explores its southern gothic themes and story. A fun series and I‘m excited for book 3.

Just finished Volume 2 and ordered volumes 3,4 and 5. This is for sure my kind of horror. #creepyreads #spookystories

Pros: this series has fantastic-- and fantastically creepy-- art, and strong girls rescuing themselves.
Cons: Volume 1 left a lot of questions unanswered about how this world works, and these two volumes muddy those waters even further. I need a stronger grounding in the world and its magic to understand any of the stakes in these stories-- without it, I just don't care about the plot much.

This series is so excellent, from the rich Southern gothic storyline to the stunning watercolor and ink panels. Creepy and beautiful, highly highly recommend for anyone who can handle a couple horrifying haints.
