The year is 1901, and Louisa Barrett is the Headmistress of the most prestigious school in Buffalo New York. I loved the strong woman main character! Murder, mystery and the background story of Niagara Falls! I remember a #frozen lake that was haunting in the dark, as the characters walked in the wooded areas. Very atmospheric! #winterwonderland
bailedI bailed. I just loved this author‘s other book And After the Fire, but this one, not so much. The pacing is slow and meandering, and there‘s a reveal about a third of the way in that I just couldn‘t suspend my disbelief over.
In other news, that hurricane is weakening! Maybe it‘s not going to be as bad as they thought? 🤞

pickThis book was a gorgeous love letter to my adopted city. The plot was a bit uneven overall, but it gets a thumbs up for all the #buffalove. (And it takes place in my back yard! My house is in the empty triangle next to the Pan-Am Expo area at the top of the map.)
