Great Dorian Gray-esque story by Poe. If I didn't know that story so well, I probably would have enjoyed this reveal more. Still wonderfully atmospheric though.🕯️

Not my favourite to be honest. It‘s cool, and the twist is nice, but I wouldn‘t really ever read this again.

I enjoyed this tale of a man and his double...being introduced to the title from King‘s The Outsider. I sometimes struggle with Poe‘s style and language (or perhaps 19th Century stylings at large), but enjoyed this quick, “supplemental” read.

When your current read (The Outsider) references other tales. I‘m really enjoying The Outsiders (and am also watching/enjoying the HBO miniseries - I like seeing how the two differ thus far), and a character mentions this short story by E. A. Poe. Thanks to @SerialReader I can dive on in concurrently. 📚📚

What I liked most about this story, is the idea that one's conscience is a being in itself. Someone who calls you out on your faults and flaws. Without spoiling the end.. William pays a very high price for pushing it away instead of embracing it.

A great buildup with a booming ending❤️

I love literature, but sometimes it's hard work! I'm not a native speaker, but luckily I have some of the best teachers in the world.. Mr. Poe, Mr. Dickens, Mr Orwell, Mr. King, Mr. Stoker, Mrs. Alcott, Mrs. Shelley, Mr. Wilde and so forth ❤️

So if I make mistakes in my blurbs, please correct me☺️

Zakia One of the great joys of reading for me, is taking notes and discovering how a word can change shape and meaning. Love your notes! ❤️ 8y

QueenAnne @Books, Books, And More Books yes that's always a good idea, there is so much to discover, so many words whom are unused these days. Loved Jane Eyre by the way (also made notes!) 8y
