Ain't She Sweet?
Ain't She Sweet? | Susan Elizabeth Phillips
4 posts | 18 read | 6 to read
In high school Sugar Carey had reigned supreme. She alone had decided what or who was cool. Her spiral perm had been the perm against which all others were measured, and her opinion on which boys were acceptable to date the only one that counted. A beautiful, blonde - if not always benevolent - dictator, she had a reputation for being the wild child in her home town, the girl most likely to set the world on fire, and leave a trail of destruction in her wake. When she left home she swore she'd never return. Only now, fifteen years and several husbands later, she's run out of money, luck and options...But Sugar arrives back home to discover that everyone else is living her life. Her half sister is married to Sugar's high school sweetheart, the teacher she schemed to get fired is now a successful novelist and owns her old house. She also discovers that people have long memories - especially where Sugar is concerned...

I almost never do a full #reread but I do revisit my favorite moments in some of my top reads. Today while I was searching for my one word titles, I pulled this one out for a revisit. It had been a while but @Deebee recently read it and brought it back in mind. This is a prime example of what makes me reread: chemistry and banter. Colin and Sugar Beth have those in spades. #feistyfeb

Deebee @MarriedtoMrT so glad I inspired you to reread, it is such a great book. The banter, the characters... so good! 7y

Pickpick

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I adored this book. Colin is now my fav SEP hero. An unexpected contemporary hero reminding me of 3 of my fav romance heroes: Chase's Dain (the beak of a nose), Beverley's Bey Malloren & @EloisaJames 's Villiers (the clothes & a feminine touch to utter masculinity). Sugar Beth was a brilliantly flawed heroine with so much sass. C&SB had loads of chemistry. The side story was slow to grow on me but enjoyed it in the end. #romansty #osrbc

EloisaJames I loved the fact that there was a real reason to dislike Sugar Beth. It's so easy to be cautious as a romance writer and not trust your ability to create a person who's likable as well as flawed! 7y
Deebee @EloisaJames Sugar Beth was a fabulous character, and I also loved that she had something real to claw her way back from. She was a character that was still working on herself, fighting to be better. I loved that SEP didn't hold back from her rotten actions.or from giving SB a very rocky road back home. I imagine a character like that must be such a challenge to write, but SEP did so very well with her. 7y
EloisaJames @Deebee exactly! 7y

The one that went from here to there without coming anyplace close to sincerity. 💙💚💛💜💗
I love the way SEP turns a phrase.

MarriedtoMrT This is my second favorite (tie for top favorite) SEP. 7y
Deebee @MarriedtoMrT I've barely started it and I'm adoring it so much. 7y
