Lawhead is one of my favorite authors. He does such a great job of character development without bogging the story down. This is a great example of what C. S. Lewis called "supposal" writing. While it's not a point for point allegory of the gospel but rather a "what if" God needed too redeem a people in a place or time that wasn't historical earth.
