My Grandfather's Coat | Jim Aylesworth

This story tells such a cute progression of a piece of a grandfather and the importance of family relationships. The story shows the grandfather using the same material throughout his life to make different things for important events!

This book had a lot of small illustrations within the text (almost like a comic book) and they were super cool to look through. They flowed really well throughout the story!

Traditional literature, published 2014. This is a cute story of a boy‘s grandfather‘s coat and how it got worn down and created into different things throughout the decades until finally there was nothing left at all except the grandfather‘s stories. So it portrays the grandfather‘s life until death.

I think that this story is able to bring back memories, or start memories, with so many people(pub.2014). This reminded me of the book Joseph and His Little Overcoat. I love the message and story throughout that book, and I enjoy this one too.
Aside from the story, the illustrations were beautiful and simple. I liked the the words were set up too.
“There she raised her family.“ This is talking about the mouse, but I loved the leading up to it.

This is a book picked for Illinois Reads 2016. Off the bat this is probably not a story I would have picked up, as the cover illustrations do not grab me. But I would have sorely missed out if not for this program.
