NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From the creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller (People). A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psychesperhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Graces harrowing past returns with a vengeance. Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Graces renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refusesa decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep. An evil she thought shed outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness shed long ago fled. I don‘t think I really liked this. It had an undercurrent of violence even when there wasn‘t any. Grace witnessed a murder as a child and is shuttled thru the system till she is placed in a setting she finally sees as home. Then a murderous child is also placed in the home. After being put in isolation in juvie, she is placed with a couple who will adopt her. Then her past catches up with her.

Won't be able to post the books-themed memes I usually post for a while cos my phone's screen cracked. Very sad something.
Anyways I'm reading the tagged book for probably the third time, me and rereads 😊😊. Hope everyone has a nice book-filled weekend.

Jonathan Kellerman soothing me as usual. His books make me want to be a therapist and maybe a day will come when I'll start taking steps in that direction.

With all the not so great reviews, I‘m not sure why I decided to read this bit I‘m still going to struggle through to the finish... hopefully.

I listened to this one on audiobook and it was a fast paced thriller that I got through very quickly. There was some R rated scenes in the book. I found the childhood part of it super interesting and suspenseful! 3.5 ⭐️

Good characters which just got lost in a mystery that was painful to finish. Lacking any real resolution...ended up a waste of time.

"Many therapists shied away from physical contact. Grace shied away from nothing."
We all come from a past and everyone has or had a battle we know nothing about!

The start was slow, but it got better as the action picked up. The ending was a little disappointing though - not as satisfying as I hoped for. But the middle part was good, and I liked the past/present dual narrative.

I generally like Kellerman's books. This story was disappointing, especially the (nonexistent) ending.

"Way back when, I read several of Kellerman‘s Alex Delaware stories. And I loved them. Still, I wasn‘t sure what to expect when I picked up this one. I was not disappointed." Reviewed by Thalia https://goo.gl/QWqMCm
