As the title suggests, this tells why Sidney Chambers decides to become a clergyman. He needed a purpose coming back from the war. Everyone doubted his sincerity, especially when he acknowledged not knowing answers. I thought it was passionately written.

The voice actor is very soft spoken and reminds me very much of Norton, the actor from the show.

Any Grantchester fans out there? I'm a huge fan of the Masterpiece Mystery TV show, and really enjoyed this prequel to the books. I'm going to start on the book series soon.

Quite different that other Granchester novels, no mysteries to solve. Glimpse of Detective Sidney. 📺 & 📚Sidney go their separate ways later in the series, this will appeal to Fans of both. Sidney becoming Sidney in War, Peace, Faith, and Love. All the moments that make him the man he is. Insight into a beloved character. Sidney could convince me to go to Church. 🤓 #sidneychambers #bookvstv

I met the lovely James Runcie at an event tonight for the Hillsborough Festival of Literature and Ideas.

Bright, compelling, funny, and honest, I was impressed not just by his writing but also by his humanity.

If you haven‘t read the Sidney Chambers Granchester books then you‘re in for treat. The tagged book is his most recent, and is a prequel to the series.

Prequel to the Grantchester Mysteries series, this book is a look into Sidney‘s WWII experiences and how he became an Anglican vicar. It is a completely different type of book from the rest of the series, featuring no mysteries but an enormous amount of introspection and religion. If you are new to the series, which I highly recommend, it may be best to start with book 1 and read this one last. I‘m a series fan, although not religious 4/5⭐️#2019

CarolynM I read and enjoyed the first one, but never followed up. This one sounds good, I'll look out for it. I enjoyed the TV series🙂 7y
