I enjoyed reading this story because it was so unpredictable. I also like dhow the illustrations of the story matched with each page very well, I did not have to guess what was going on in the illustration because they were very detailed and matched their description well.

pickThis is an award winning book about a little boy who takes a three year nap. This story is about a poor boy who is very lazy. When a rich merchant moves to town, he decided he wants to convince the merchants daughter to marry him so he doesn't have to work and can still be rich. However, the sons mother thinks of a plan of her own. She will help him be able to marry her, as long as he works.
“Do you think you are the only one who makes plans?”
This quote made me laugh, it is a very motherly quote. If you pull a fast one on someone, mothers will protect you but make sure you pay for it, at least a little. I thought it was funny she never mentioned his scheme because it benefited her but she had to make sure he was done being lazy! A good read
This book was enjoyable from front to back. It was witty and entertaining. Both the widow and her som made plans without giving the other a notice and they both got their way in the end, without conversation between the two. Loved this story!

A extremely lazy son of a widow comes up with a plan to pretend to be a priest and fear the towns merchant into making his daughter marry “the boy on his street” which is himself. The widow catches on that the “priest” was her son and played along and had them fix the house and make it bigger and then before she granted consent, got her lazy son a job. He became wealthy & active!
pickI have never heard of this story. I enjoyed the story very much upon reading about it(pub.1988). I liked the story a lot. It was/is very different from most stories that i have read, but in the best way possible. I liked that the boy was actually just taking a nap.
Aside from the story itself, I really liked the illustrations. It allows for there to be a constant throughout the book and no overstimulation.

“”Ha! Do you think you are the only one who makes plans?” His mother answered.”
pickThis book had a really great message, which I think would resonate with kids because it‘s also humorous. I really liked how the illustrations stayed true to the culture of the characters.
“If he is not the busiest man in town, neither is he the laziest.”
I don‘t like how it emphasized that being lazy works out, and that tricking elders can help you get your way. Overall, not so good.
so-soThe language was well written and the illustrations go great with the book. The plot was simple to follow except for a few traditional Japanese words.
