This short, intense play is set in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Two years after leaving her husband and 12 kids, Chana comes back to see her children. The women in her family greet her with something else in mind. The author explains community norms without preaching, though it‘s clear she disagrees. It‘s a small window into a closed, patriarchal society.

I am fascinated by stories of people, especially women, in closed or cultish religions. This one is Kindle Unlimited and counts for my #ReadingWomen #play prompt. Having just finished a story with Muslim women in seclusion, this seems like a good choice for my own “confinement.” (contagious with the flu 😷)

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Yeah, I haven‘t had the flu in easily ten years. Ugh. Lots of reading getting done, though. A little harder to write reviews ... this isn‘t a long play. Packs a punch, though. I‘m super depressed about women‘s rights after Heart Berries, Malabar Hill, and this one. Now I‘m reading about a NYC woman who buys an apt in Paris! 🇫🇷 5y
