Just Eat It: How Intuitive Eating Can Help You... | Laura Thomas
12 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
'Truly life-changing' Dolly Alderton 'One of the most important voices in food today' The Angry Chef, Anthony Warner Just Eat It isnt just a book. Its part of a movement to help us take back control over our bodies. To free us from restrictive dieting, disordered eating and punishing exercise. To reject the guilt and anxiety associated with eating and, ultimately, to help us feel good about ourselves. This anti-diet guide from registered nutritionist Laura Thomas PhD can help you sort out your attitude to food and ditch punishing exercise routines. As a qualified practitioner of Intuitive Eating a method that helps followers tune in to innate hunger and fullness cues Thomas gives you the freedom to enjoy food on your own terms. There are no rules: only simple, practical tools and exercises including mindfulness techniques to help you recognise physiological and emotional hunger, sample conversations with friends and colleagues, and magazine and blog critiques that call out diet culture. So, have you ever been on a diet? Spent time worrying that you looked fat when you could have been doing something useful? Compared the size of your waistline to someone else's? Felt guilt, actual guilt, about the serious crime of . . . eating a doughnut? You're not alone. Just Eat It gives you everything you need to develop a more trusting, healthy relationship with food and your body.

I'm so enjoying reading whatever I want! I haven't eaten sugary treats in nearly 10 months, I've lost weight I feel better, it's great! But I can't avoid them forever, I've become a tad scared about eating them so hoping this read will get my brain thinking a bit more sensibly!

This book 👍👏👌🙌
TLDR; it‘s not the number of selfies or the time spent on social media that impacts your body image and disordered eating - it‘s the focus on getting the right picture (staging, editing etc)

Finished my first #24b4monday day at just under 7 hours.

I lap up books about our relationship with food and disordered eating, I find them so helpful and this was no exception. It combined rigorous understanding of nutrition science and psychology with an engaging chatty style.

I think almost any woman alive could benefit from looking deeper into her relationship with food, and I recommend this to everyone interested in how we relate to food

JamieArc Have you read the tagged book? I just got it and am excited to read it. It‘s also a really pretty book 😊 5y
Andrew65 A great start, well done. 👍😊🙌 5y

Pure coincidence, but just as I‘m reading this wonderful primer on intuitive eating I had to cook and eat beef for the first time in a while (I‘ve had it in restaurants on special occasions twice in the last few months which somehow felt different), due to a mixup with someone else doing the shopping and not wanting to waste it now it‘s bought. It feels weird and horrible encountering a fear food like this but the book is helping a lot

Weaponxgirl I hope it was enjoyable 😊 5y

Starting this new book that just came out today in the uk on my way home from work. I read everything I can get my hands on about eating disorders, disordered eating and society‘s relationship with food. Reading and understanding these issues on a bigger-than-me scale is a big part of the progress I‘ve made on this personally and I‘m glad to have this one

Weaponxgirl I‘ve got this one too. I‘ve heard good things about it 5y
TheNerdyProfessor I just picked up a book that looks at similar issues. You might be interested in it! 5y
