Girl Town
Girl Town | Carolyn Nowak

Diana got hurt—a lot—and she’s decided to deal with this fact by purchasing a life-sized robot boyfriend. Mary and La-La host a podcast about a movie no one’s ever seen. Kelly has dragged her friend Beth out of her comfort zone—and into a day at the fantasy market that neither of them will forget. Girl Town collects the Ignatz Award-winning stories “Radishes” and “Diana’s Electric Tongue” together with several other tales of young adulthood and the search for connection. Here are her most acclaimed mini-comics and anthology contributions, enhanced with new colors and joined by brand-new work. Bold, infatuated, wounded, or lost, Nowak’s girls shine with life and longing. Their stories—depicted with remarkable charm and insight—capture the spirit of our time.

I wanted to like this, but I didn't know it was a collection of stories and I am not a short story reader. When I was enjoying a story, it ended too soon. And, one of the stories I didn't like at all. I am sad this was not meant for me!

This was a lovely collection of short stories. I typically don't enjoy short stories (even in comic form, as it turns out). If you enjoy short stories, you may enjoy this collection! #comic #lgbtq #lgbt #lgbtcomic #shortstory

A strange and delightful queer feminist collection of #Comics #ShortStories. The titular/1st story was actually my least fav, so I'm glad I kept reading after that. Two girls go to a fantasy market and find mysterious food allowing them to truly look at themselves. A woman sad about a breakup buys a robot boyfriend. Two friends discuss via podcast a cult 90s movie of which they have possibly the only copy. Authentic, complex portraits of women.

'Radishes' was my favorite by far but all these were pretty entertaining. Slice of life type stories without any real plots on a few. The artwork was cool.

This was a cool little graphic novel of weird stories about women. Fast read, perfect so I can return it and pick up the book I have on hold. I have the maximum amount of books out on both my mom and my accounts so I have to read and return something to pick up any books on hold. My concentration has been absolutely horrid lately so I am reading quick to get through graphic novels. I have a lot of really cool ones. My INTENTIONS are great, lol 😉

Day 7 of #RiotGrams is a book with "Girl" in the title
What is fun for me about this photo is that 2 of the authors are my friends and I love sharing my friends' work

I didn't know much about this going in, but I was so pleasantly surprised! It's like if Kelly Link did comics about women's fraught relationships. So much emotion is packed into each slightly fantastical world. Loved it!

I liked some of the short stories in this collection more then others. The first story I found off-putting, but the rest were better. There is a surreal, but quiet, magical realism in most stories. There were also a few moments that took my breath away.
