Shadow Tyrants: Clive Cussler | Clive Cussler, Boyd Morrison
5 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
Only Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon stand between two warring moguls and global havoc in this thrilling suspense novel in Clive Cussler's #1 New York Times bestselling series. Nearly two thousand years ago, an Eastern emperor charged a small group with safeguarding secrets powerful enough to change the history of mankind. They went down in legend as the Nine Unknown Men--and now two rival factions of their descendants are fighting a mighty battle. Both sides think they are saving the world, but their tactics could very well bring about the end of humankind. Soon, Juan Cabrillo and his team of expert operatives aboard the Oregon find themselves trapped between two power-hungry adversaries, both of whom are willing to use shocking means to accomplish their goals. Cabrillo and the team must divide and conquer as they fight dual threats, which include a supercomputer at sea and satellites that can wipe out technology across the globe--including the high-tech weapons on board the Oregon. The crew must rely on their unique skills to stop the tyrants in their tracks and save the earth from a dynasty of terror.

This was an enjoyable read but not as exciting as the other books of The Oregon Files. Had interesting characters and unique plot but I love the history in these books more than the information about weapons and equipment. I would like to check out some of the other series by Clive Cussler. I would recommend this book to those who love adventure books.

Bklover Sahara is one of my favorites, along with some of the other early Dirk Pitt books 5y
MrT I only now read the Dirk Pitt novels. Way to many others to keep up with and the quality seemed to go downhill. I'm convinced that Clive Cussler is actually dead and the publishers use his name to trot out second rate adventures stories by other authors by adding his name to the covers. They probably wouldn't sell otherwise. 5y
EadieB @MrT You do have to wonder when the new ones are a bit different. 5y
EadieB @Bklover I'll have to try the Dirk Pitt books next. 5y

This is an enjoyable book, some good history behind it, exciting action as the book progresses - especially at the end, & key themes that threaten the future of the world as we know it. However, this series is just starting to feel a tad formulaic. Possibly a bit more creativity in the writing & structure of the book is needed. Not sure how many more descriptions of cars I can take that don‘t take the story forward. 😂 But still enjoyed overall.

EadieB Nice review! I felt like I had to really work hard at staying interested in this one. It was a lot of talk about things I'm not really interested in but I do like Juan Cabrillo's team members. 5y

Starting Shadow Tyrants for a Group Read on Librarything. This one Is book 13 in the excellent Oregon Files Series by Clive Cussler, and currently Boyd Morrison. I‘ve enjoyed the couple of books I‘ve read written by Boyd Morrison - The Noah‘s Ark Quest and The Tsunami Countdown (also published as Rogue Wave).

Tove_Reads He was my fave author when I was 20. Loved the Dirk Pitt novels. The he wrote some not so good ones, and I stopped reading. 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I enjoy his Oregon Files Series, but wouldn‘t say their my favourite books. Only read the odd one from a couple of other series. 5y

Your typical Clive Cussler novel; like major blockbuster movie with lots of fast paced action, but forgettable after it‘s over. But, enjoyable while you‘re reading :)
