Picked this up at the local library as I love Vanity Fair by Thackery, and thought a modern retelling would be good. Sadly disappointed. The book is a cheap fluffy read with nothing to recommend it, oh hang on there are one or two witty remarks. But on the whole it was so shallow you couldn‘t drown in it if you tried. Such a good idea, and yet so disappointing, don‘t waste your time.

Finally finished this one. Didn‘t enjoy it as much as I thought sadly.

Twelve books day three. I was inspired to read this modern twist after watching the tv adaptation of Vanity Fair.

Parts of this book are decent chick-lit that I enjoyed, however the rest of the book was too unbelievable for me. I wasn‘t a fan of the characters or the main plot points and felt that some of the book was still stuck in the past with the original. I‘d give “The Rise & Fall of Becky Sharp” two stars.

Have you read this book? Did you enjoy it more than I did?? Let me know!

My full review is up on my blog now 📚

I've just opened my third subscription box from Reading in Heels UK. I haven't actually read Vanity Fair, has anyone read this modernisation of it yet?

Have you ever tried a book subscription box? Do you have any recommendations??

RainyDayReading I‘ve tried Owlcrate, Shelflove Crate and two others that I don‘t think are operating anymore. I loved my Shelflove more than the Owlcrate, but Owlcrate has really stepped up their game (signed books, exclusive Merch, exclusive covers etc.) so they might be worth a shot? Both are YA and have monthly themes. If you lean more towards adult try Uppercase or Bookie box (they switch between YA and adult) 6y
RainyDayReading Stupid comment limit. There‘s also a Booktuber on YouTube called Bookables and she just did a recommended book box video. Might be helpful! 6y
whatrebeccasread @RainyDayReading thank you so much! I'm going to look into all of these at the weekend when I've got some time! 📚 6y

This is my #favouritequote from the last book I finished. Overall it was a delight and I would recommend it to anyone who likes classic retellings, books full of scandals and high-society drama, and fun! #AlltheBooksAug18

I am SO excited to be starting this new #retelling of Vanity Fair from one of my favourite authors. I haven't read Vanity Fair - only watched an adaptation years ago, so I think I'm going to be reading this first, then the original for maximum enjoyment. This is from NetGalley and isn't out until September, is it on anyone else's TBR?

Dragon Becky Sharp was my favourite character, I almost finished reading Vanity Fair but I bailed. I think I will have to read the tagged book. 👍🐉 6y
juliannebenford @Dragon I'm really enjoying it so far. She is certainly morally flexible! 6y
Dragon Sounds right 😂👍🐉 6y
