Being a Green Mother | Piers Anthony

Orb had a rare gift--the magic which manifested whenever she sang or played her harp. No one could resist her music. But she knew that greater magic lay in the Llano, the mystic music that controlled all things. The quest for the Llano occupied Orb's life. Until she met Natasha, handsome and charming, and an even finer musician. But her mother Niobe came as an Aspect of Fire, with the news that Orb had been chosen for the role of Incarnation of Nature--The Green Mother. But she also warned of a prophecy that Orb was to marry Evil. Could she be sure that Natasha was not really Satan, the Master of Illusion, laying a trap for her...?

Mehso-so

If there‘s one thing I‘ve learned in my reread of this series, it‘s that I‘m no longer fond of Piers Anthony‘s writing style. As a kid, it was direct and accessible. Now, I find it shallow. This book, like all the others, has the hallmarks of an interesting story that are buried underneath plodding structure and clunky prose. Plus that twist? I don‘t know, I found it a little laughable.

#marchbookstagram series read 2+ times. The Bone Season series (although I ordered the 3rd in the special edition with the original series jacket art, not the art shown here. HP is a classic and I'm rereading now. The Incarnations of Immortality is so creative and I re-read before each new book came out.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I love seeing Incarnations of Immortality show up in Litsy. I had forgotten those books existed! Takes me back to middle school. 7y
Ubookquitous @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Young'un.... I was in undergrad school when #2 came out. ? I was an English major and read them as an antidote to some of the more moribund of the "Western Canon" 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I have often wondered if they would hold up if I reread them as an adult. The Xanth books do NOT. I read the whole series from 6th - 8th grade and still remember lots of details about the responsibilities and tools of the Incarnations. 7y
Ubookquitous I read maybe 12 of the xanth series and I can't imagine them holding up, but incarnations does, at least for me. I introduced my step-son to them and reread them then as well. Another by him I liked was Tarot Ever read It? 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I tried the first Tarot book in high school and don't think I finished? Been awhile. 7y
