Girl I Used to Be
Girl I Used to Be | Mary Torjussen

The acclaimed author of Gone Without a Trace delivers another twisting novel of psychological suspense in which a woman is backed against a wall--with nothing left to lose... The morning after real estate agent Gemma Brogan has dinner with a prospective client, she's furious at herself for drinking so much. But there will be more to regret than a nasty hangover. She starts receiving mementos from that night: A photo of a hallway kiss. A video of her complaining about her husband. And worse...much worse. The problem is she doesn't remember any of it. As the blackmailing and menace ramp up, Gemma fears for her already shaky marriage. The paranoia, the feeling that her life is spiraling out of control, will take her back to another night--years ago--that changed everything. And Gemma will realize just how far the shadows from her past can reach...

Gemma is married to Joe & she works long hours at an estate agents whilst Joe is a SAHD. One evening she runs into a client at a hotel & has dinner with him. The next morning she cannot remember what happened - then threats of blackmail begin.

The author does a good job of building suspense and Gemma is a fairly sympathetic character. Rating: 4 🌟

Thanks to Netgalley and publishers, Headline, for the opportunity to review an ARC.

Darn it! I was 15 pages into this book when my App started to act up. I had this problem once before with a Read-it-First book. I deleted it and thought I‘d reload it. I went to the site and the download expired! Rats!!! It was looking like a great read! Well, I guess I‘ll be checking it out at the library. I can't believe my little cat still takes on a 65lb Mal; it's a good thing I looked up when I did

I was blown away by this book. Part One is a bit slow but it totally paid off in Part Two. It has some minor twists as well as some solid writing.

Secrets, lies, and silence are the words that come to mind in describing this book. Every time I thought I had figured out a piece of the puzzle, another detail would be revealed that changed everything. The ending was particularly satisfying. I hope there's more coming from this author!
