pickA little like Charles Manson fan fiction, but I really enjoyed it. Was definitely a page turner. Four childhood best friends get caught up with a charismatic cult leader. Drugs, sex, madness and violence ensues. But while I call it Manson fan fiction, this book definitely has some twists and turns to keep it unique. ☠🖤☠
With a cult as the backdrop (cause who doesn‘t love a batshit crazy cult book 🤪) this novel has promise. But good lord...the rabbit trails. I found myself fast forwarding through the last three hours of this audiobook. Think Helter Skelter meets stream of consciousness. In this case, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn‘t. If you‘re okay with occasional skimming, then I recommend.
This book is bizarrrrrre. It's captivating and fast moving but oh so strange
so-soNot horrible. At times, the story telling seemed a bit disjointed. Perhaps this was intentional in an attempt to reveal the state of mind of the primary narrator, but the result was a difficult to follow story. The brainwashing and manipulation that occurs start in a subtle way and later become more obvious and frightening. I never felt like bailing on this book, but I also felt no urgency to finish.

I'm seeing lots of people bail on Emma Cline's THE GIRLS. Check this one out. Similar premise. A fellow bookseller read both and found this one to be the better book.
pickDefinitely more literary than thriller, but paced nicely to keep you turning the pages. I was most drawn in by the exploration of the weird allure of Mr. Wick. The relationships/manipulations progress slowly enough to feel believable and even relatable at times.
Really drawn into this. It's slowly unraveling the story of what happened when a young girl and her friends were drawn into this cult-like group of misfits. Decades later the leader is in prison and his followers are intermittently threatening her and dancing on the graves of her dead friends.
pickAn eerie trip into a 70s era cult and the reverberations of members actions decades later. Really well written and thoughtful page turner.
