🎧 I‘m still in a reading slump. I enjoyed this audiobook & the author‘s note.

The US & China are in a space race to get to Saturn where an Alien ship might have left behind advanced alien weaponry.

Easy, quick read. Narrator was also good.

Someone gave me this book after they read it. I‘d never read John Sandford before. I gotta say, dude writes some excellent character driven fiction. With help from Ctein, he crafts a beautifully realistic sci-fi adventure. (Sandford is usually a detective thriller guy, or so I hear.)
If you like your sci-fi to have lots of REAL science, this is a must read.
I recommend this to fans of Michael Crichton and Andy Weir.

A solid 3 1/2 stars. Sci-fi isn‘t my jam, read this for a challenge prompt. Liked the usual Sandford snark, which is prolly what kept me reading. All in all, a good story.

This was a very interesting book, overall. Being a science nerd, I enjoyed the details about the ships and the trip. I felt character development was done well, and I did not feel like the plot was predictable. Certain turning points truly surprised me. #recentlyread #nospoilers #sciencefiction

Also, I love my new stuffed animal. #niffler ❤️😍

Very obviously hard-core science fiction. But the way the technology is described, it feels plausible, which to me makes it fascinating. Furthermore, although the technical stuff is a bit hard-core, it is the furthest from dull for me. #gofigure #currentlyreading #sciencefiction 🚀🛸🖤

Okay, this is serious hard core Sci-Fi and I was in to it for 18 chapters. Other reviewers said it was a slow build but dammit, this was dull. Many chapters leading to the launch full of technical stuff - I skipped chapters 19-42 and only truly missed a single event which I felt strongly enough about to go back and read. Read the rest of the book - not disappointed by the Saturn bits but wished for more; ending was obvi and unsatisfying.

Entertaining sci-fi thriller, but ended up being about humans, not aliens.

I do a ton of reading at night.
Tonight, I have a new audio. It was suggested since I liked The Martian so much. Guess we'll see!

This was the first book that popped into my mind for #aplanetinthetitle . I've been trying to reread it for a while as I love Sandford's early books but just not getting into this one so far.

@RealLifeReading

DGRachel I like to pretend this book doesn't exist in the Sandford canon. I love all of his Prey novels and his books with Virgil Flowers and Kidd, but I did not enjoy this one at all. 7y
Debiw781 @DGRachel I keep trying to make it through it but I HATE IT 😖☹️ 7y
DGRachel Bail! It doesn't get better! 7y
Debiw781 @DGRachel I'm giving it one more chance in a little bit and then bailing. I've had that book on my GR shelf as "reading" forever ? 7y

Saturn run is a political thriller set in space, set around a story about mankind's first contact with alien life. It IS science fiction, with a lot of obvious research done to make it realistic and enjoyable, but the scifi is not what keeps the story going. It's the race between the US and the Chinese to get to the alien technology first, and the tension between the governments and the ship crews that is the real conflict here.

I love John Sandford. I've read all of the Prey books and all of the Virgil Flowers novels, but I abhorred this one. I stuck with it to the end because I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. #didntlikeitstillfinished #marchintoreading (Photo from Goodreads)

Too much repetitive "science" and the characters seemed written for a movie script. I liked The Martian better.

Great read. Serious Sci Fi. Emphasis on the Sci. Empathetic characters. I can easily imagine looking out of the Windows of the Richard M. Nixon and enjoying my view of Saturn.
