pickA solid 4 ⭐️ IMO. Bascomb keeps the reader engaged with novel-like pacing and structure. I love history, and I‘m seeing more and more historians embrace this ethos. They are seeing the value in good storytelling, not just in-depth research.

panI was excited to read a ya nonfiction book about this topic and had high hopes, but it read a little like a textbook to me. I just never got into it.
panKinda disappointed in the book. It just felt long and overwritten for a story that could have been really intriguing.
