I read this book as part of the 52 week challenge. The prompt was to read an anthology. This book was very unique. It‘s made up of short stories written by funeral directors. Some of the stories were so cute and inspiring. At the end of the day, I learned that undertakers are just normal people living normal lives. I guess I already knew that, but expected the stories to be a bit more occult.

3.5 stars

I noticed this book has some mixed reviews, but honestly I thought it was a relatively entertaining read. A few of the stories pulled at my heart strings and there were a couple that made me laugh out loud. Overall, I think I was hoping for a bit more “dirt“, though it was still a fun read as it was.

It sounded good, but the blurb on the cover is very misleading. It wasn‘t the most boring book ever, but as lively as a bunch of drunks at a New Orleans funeral it was not. Didn‘t hate it, didn‘t love it, almost bailed. However, a few of the stories had a pulse and saved the rest from being a total snooze fest.

KathyWheeler That should have been fascinating not boring! My daughter wants to be a funeral director, so I‘d thought about getting this book for her. I probably won‘t now. 4y

BlameJennyJane @rather_be_reading I wasn‘t sure if I could since I ultimately bailed. Iced updated it as an #ImpulseRead. ❤️🌲 4y

BlameJennyJane @KathyWheeler I was really looking forward to it and it was just dull. The stories meant to be funny were just barely. I‘ve read better on the subject including 4y
KathyWheeler @BlameJennyJane I‘ll have to tell my daughter about Remember Me. She‘s read Stiffed. Thanks! 4y

Pickpick

I bought this at a special price for my Kindle. It is a compilation of “war stories” written by undertakers. Nothing gruesome but very interesting. All of the stories were written by different funeral directors across the country and each chapter is no more than a few pages long. I enjoyed the book and learned a fair bit. I recommend adding it to your digital pile when it goes on sale again.

I was actually expecting more. It had a few amusing stories but other than that it just didn't impress me. At least it was a quick read.

Nothing scary, just another day at the job.
