Devil and the Bluebird
Devil and the Bluebird | Jennifer Mason-Black
9 posts | 9 read | 14 to read
Blue Riley has wrestled with her own demons ever since the loss of her mother to cancer. But when she encounters a beautiful devil at her town crossroads, its her runaway sisters soul she fights to save. The devil steals Blues voiceinherited from her musically gifted motherin exchange for a single shot at finding Cass. Armed with her mothers guitar, a knapsack of cherished mementos, and a pair of magical boots, Blue journeys west in search of her sister. When the devil changes the terms of their deal, Blue must reevaluate her understanding of good and evil and open herself up to finding family in unexpected places. In Devil and the Bluebird, Jennifer Mason-Black delivers a captivating depiction of loss and hope. The odd and intriguing concept, the southern gothic backdrop, and the inclusion of nontraditional families and LGBT characters will endear this to many. Mason-Blacks writing, lyrical and woven through with song and warmth, marks her as one worth watching. --Booklist

Great book with a supernatural twist and amazing characters.

Blue is trying to deal with the passing of her mother and a missing sister. She makes a deal with the devil, who happens to be a woman, her voice for magical hiking boots that will lead her to her sister.

While she hitch hikes through the country she meets new people, kind ones and scary ones, and finds her true self while on the journey.

This is hands-down the best book I've read in a long while. It is full of soul, and music, and heart. It's a story of deals with the devil, wandering, and being true to yourself.

The picture: I made guitar picks out of old credit cards. I think Blue would approve.

I really enjoyed this book! I read it in one sitting because it sucked me in and I had to see if Bluebird was able to succeed. There are a lot of twists and turns and many memorable characters are introduced to you as you follow Bluebird on the journey to find her sister. Definitely would read again!:)

Mason-Black does a nice job of tying the threads of her story together much like the harmonies she writes about...I liked it but deals with the devil don't concern Dexter in the least.
