The Courage of Sarah Noble
The Courage of Sarah Noble | Alice Dalgliesh
4 posts | 10 read | 3 to read
"This one is to be long remembered for its beautifully written beauty and simplicity" (The New York Times Book Review). In 1707, young Sarah Noble and her father traveled through the wilderness to build a new home for their family. "Keep up your courage, Sarah Noble," her mother had said, but Sarah found that it was not always easy to feel brave inside. The dark woods were full of animals and Indians, too, and Sarah was only eight! The true story of Sarah's journey is inspiring. And as she cares for her father and befriends her Indian neighbors, she learns that to be afraid and to be brave is the greatest courage of all.

Pickpick

I was looking for a book to read with my adult ESL student, so I asked a librarian for some help. She showed me the Newberry Award section, and this looked like it would work. Based on a true story, an eight year old girl goes with her father to cook for him while he builds a house in the the wilds of Connecticut. Written in 1954, the writing is spare and portrays the relationship between white settlers and the Native Americans.
Controversial⬇️

DivineDiana Considering the time it was written, the book ultimately embraces unity, although there are a few derogatory lines that can encourage discussion. Glad that I read it on Indigenous People‘s Day. (edited) 3y

This was a very quick read about a girl who went with her father to settle their homestead. It was based on true events. This was a very cute story and I enjoyed it a lot! #NewberyHonor
