Tales of Falling and Flying
Tales of Falling and Flying | Ben Loory
6 posts | 2 read | 16 to read
Ben Loorys stories are little gifts, strange and moving and wonderfully human. I devoured this book in one sitting. Ransom Riggs, author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children A dazzling new collection of stories from the critically acclaimed author of Stories for Nighttime and Some for The Day Ben Loory returns with a second collection of timeless tales, inviting us to enter his worlds of whimsical fantasy, deep empathy, and playful humor, in the signature voice that drew readers to his highly praised first collection. In stories that eschew literary realism, Loorys characters demonstrate richly imagined and surprising perspectives, whether they be dragons or swordsmen, star-crossed lovers or long-lost twins, restaurateurs dreaming of Paris or cephalopods fixated on space travel. In propulsive language that brilliantly showcases Loorys vast imagination, Tales of Falling and Flying expands our understanding of how fiction can work and is sure to cement his reputation as one of the most innovative short-story writers working today. Praise for Ben Loorys Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day: This guy can write! Ray Bradbury [A] wild, dreamy debut . . . These stories are full of wit, humor, and heart. The Boston Globe

Today‘s #bookhaul includes a #blinddatewithabook which ended up being the tagged book. A bookish magazine, another magazine that included an article on “How books smell,” and two other books I‘ve been eyeing for awhile. Has anyone read these?
Not pictured are a couple things I found for the #potterheadswap

BookaholicNatty I have been wanting to find a blind date with a book somewhere near me!!!! 6y

Switching back and forth between The Engagements and this book. I love how each story is so short but so rich. Great little bites of fiction! Talia was not super pumped to be a book model, but she‘s handling it gracefully.

GondorGirl I love that the book and the cat match. 😻😹 6y

#TBRtemptation post 4! Recently released. Hailed by Ray Bradbury & Ransom Riggs, Loory's latest (2nd) short story collection's reminiscent of fairy tales fables with a twist. There are dragons, swordsmen, star-crossed lovers, long-lost twins, restauranteurs dreaming of Paris, cephalopods dreaming of space travel. Fun, fast, kooky, whimsical, empathetic, humorous, thought-provoking, are how reviewers describe this book. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
