Daydreams of Angels
Daydreams of Angels | Heather O'Neill
8 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
A cherub breaks all the rules when he spends one night with a girl on earth. Snow White and Rose Red forge a unique way to survive the Paris occupation. A soldier is brought back to life by a toymaker, but he's not grateful. And a child begins the story of a Gypsy and a bear, who have to finish it themselves. These are old stories, but not as you know them. These are set not in the forests of Europe or fantasy worlds, but on the battlefields of World War Two and the wilderness of downtown Montreal. With her blazing imagination, irreverent humour and arresting prose, Heather O'Neill twists them anew: more magical for their realism, more profound for their darkness; captivating, witty and wicked.

So I'm not going to get my 24, life has prevented that once again. But I will likely get 17 or 18 in by midnight and that is closer than I've ever managed before! #24in48 #readathon #finallylakesidewithabook

I'm about to dive into this one. I loved O'Neill's first two novels, so I'm really looking forward to this short story collection. #canlit

Posts about O'Neill's new book reminded me to pick up this collection, which seems ideal for me at this moment.

When I was a kid my dad‘s friends would come over, get drunk and set their money on fire. We don‘t teach our kids about futility anymore.

marita Loved this one! 8y
dixi_e @marita Agree! O'Neill is sooooo fabulous. I have enjoyed and been inspired by all that she writes. 8y
marita I haven't read her novels yet but know that I should. She had a great story in last year's Short Story Advent Calendar which made me ask for the collection for Christmas. 8y
dixi_e You definitely should pick them up when you can. Her prose, insight and imagination are equally grand in each novel. 8y

Mehso-so

I love O'Neill's writing and everything is so delightfully weird. I only say so-so because I enjoy her novels more.
