18 posts | 9 read | 2 to read
NASA astronaut Scott Kelly was the first to spend an entire year in space! Discover his awe-inspiring journey in this fascinating picture book memoir that takes readers from Scotts childhood as an average student to his record-breaking year among the stars. Scott Kelly wasnt sure what he wanted to be when he grew up. He struggled in school and often got in trouble with his twin brother, Mark. Then one day Scott discovered a book about test pilots and astronauts that set him on a new path. His new focus led him to fly higher and higher, becoming first a pilot and then an astronaut, along with his brotherthe first twin astronauts in history. But his greatest accomplishment of all was commanding the International Space Station and spending nearly a year in space, which set the record for the longest spaceflight by an American. This story of an ordinary boy who grew up to do extraordinary things will amaze and inspire you.

“But how was I ever going to get through and medical school when I could barely sit still”
I think this is a really good thing to put a children‘s book because there‘s a lot of students who do struggle with this, and he eventually became an a famous astronaut.

I like how this book goes back-and-forth with drawings and real pictures because I think it engages children because I‘m trying to figure out the pictures really not because you never know.

Filled with gorgeous photos from Earth and from space and startling facts along with astronaut Scott Kelly's thoughts, this is a good choice for the younger elementary school age.

Scott Kelly spent almost a year living in space. This children‘s picture book uses a mix of photographs and illustrations and a mix of past and present to tell his story. It is quite effective and enjoyable.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such a lovely read. This story has nice illustrations peppered with real photos old and new of Scoot Kelly and his twin brother. Since this was meant for kids, it did not get very in depth, but just enough to keep their interest and grow their ideas of exploring. Overall, very well done.

My Easter break has consisted of trying to keep up with 2 nonstop little kiddos. So far we are having a blast but I‘m only getting through like 10 pages a day of the awesome fantasy that I‘m desperate to finish.

Took the boys to the library today and these were the 3 year old‘s picks (nudged him towards the Scott Kelly book).

Hoping to read Endurance in 2018, but this picture book served as a nice intro. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This B text was created by Scott Kelly with the aid of Andre Ceolin. Due to the vocabulary and nature of the text, the GR strategy would be most effective to aid students‘ comprehension. This book is interesting because it is a mixture of illustrations and real-life photographs of Scott Kelly‘s journey. The text displays the main events of his life leading up to him deciding to travel into space.

kkidwell The story offers an underlying message about not giving up on your dreams, no matter what they are. Spoiler alert: he never planned on being an astronaut! He had other dreams before this one. #UCFLAE3414F17 6y
