Biscuits | Belinda Ellis
4 posts
For fifteen years, food writer Belinda Ellis traveled around the country for the White Lily(R) flour company, teaching people to make biscuits and listening to their stories. "I learned that deep in the soul of a biscuit, there's more than the flour, fat, and milk. A hot biscuit embodies a memory of place and family," she writes. Ellis's heartfelt tribute to the biscuit celebrates the many possible flavors and uses for this classic southern bread. The first recipe in the book is a master recipe with step-by-step photographs showing how to make the perfect biscuit. In an evocative and enlightening introduction, Ellis delights readers with biscuit history and its intimate connections with southern culture and foodways. The book's 55 recipes range from traditional to inventive offering a biscuit for every occasion: Flaky Butter Biscuits; John Egerton's Beaten Biscuits; Pancetta, Rosemary, and Olive Oil Biscuits; and The Southern Reuben.

Every day at lunch I input some of my ebooks books into a spreadsheet so I can eventually keep track of them better. You can absolutely tell when I got on binges! When I first I bought my Kindle Fire I watched the free lists closely. I still look from time to time but not like I used to. This is going to take awhile. Sigh...

Lcsmcat I tried exporting mine to excel and it worked pretty well. I then had to go in and clean it up, but it beat entering them all by hand! Now I need to update it. Sigh. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @Lcsmcat How did you do that? 6y
Lcsmcat @jpmcwisemorgan I don‘t remember exactly but it involved connecting my Kindle to the computer physically and treating it like a flash drive or other storage device. Then exporting as a comma delimited file. (I think I found out how on Google.) 6y

jpmcwisemorgan @Lcsmcat OMG! I‘m Googling and there are a couple of options that I‘m going to play with. You‘re a life saver. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @Lcsmcat It looks like I might be able to do it with Calibre. 6y

OMG!!! Y‘all. I have 3,931 ebooks. I‘m not even sure how many of those I‘ve read. There are some cookbooks but not so many that it would like I only have 2000 ebooks. I‘m slowly putting it all into a Google spreadsheet so I can start keeping track. And you can tell when I go on binges because there will be a bunch of books at the same time - like how I acquired almost 60 ebooks from 12/31/12 to 1/1/13.

2BR02B And how many are Tinglers? 😆 6y
DGRachel @2BR02B That was my question, too! 😂😂 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @2BR02B @DGRachel I think it‘s 7 Tinglers maybe??? I‘m not even including anything from Humble/Story Bundle or the Tingle books that were gifted to me and are sitting on my Google Drive. 6y

We started the seasonal biscuit production this afternoon. Unfortunately (😉), we ran out of butter and I did not want to go shopping again. Otherwise we'd have made enough batches to feed an army.

Biscuits are my downfall- I'm a good cook, but I'm terrible at biscuit making. My mom gave me this as a gag gift for Christmas a few years ago, and it's helped up my skills only marginally 😝#riotgrams #cookbook #food
