It has been ten years since Ruby left her hometown behind. Since then she's built a life away from her recovering alcoholic mother and her first love, Murphy. But when Danny, one of her estranged friends from childhood, commits suicide, guilt draws Ruby back into the tumultuous world she escaped all those years ago. She's dreading the funeral - and with good reason. Danny has left a series of envelopes addressed to his former friends. Inside each envelope is a secret about every person in the group. Ruby's secret is so explosive, she will fight tooth-and-nail to keep it hidden from those she once loved so deeply, even if that means risking everything...

Pickpick

I give this story four stars. It was a good story and well done for a first book.
The plot deals with some very difficult and dark themes; abuse, drugs, abortion and suicide. All of these topics are dealt with empathy and understanding. There is no glamourising or exaggeration. The suspense about the secrets is kept throughout the book, we are drip fed clues throughout and it ends really well. I would read more by this author!

Pickpick

A group of friends who all grew up together in a small town in Vermont, who find themselves thrown together after 10 yrs to attend a funeral of one of the members of “The Crew” He‘s orchestrated plan with the help of her mother, where they are asked to meet up and his mother gives them each a letter that they must share with each other. Each crew member narrates their own story growing up. I‘ll have to admit this one had me in tears a few times.
