The Chalet School in Exile | 
Naturally there are some quite terrifying moments in this book, given that the girls are fleeing the Nazis. Even so, I was struck that it didn't pull any punches in a book aimed at children.

Vansa That was the huge difference i found in Chalet School versus Enid Blyton-I love Blytons school stories but she completely ignores the real world. Interesting choices by both writers! 2y
johncadams @Vansa There is so much difference, I couldn't agree more. I like Angela Brazil very much, but she's very different to Elinor Brent-Dyer, in part because she didn't write in series but created new schools and characters for each book. 2y
