In shepherd boy Elrics tiny village, people think children like his younger sister, Wynn, are changelingsleft by fairies and doomed to curse all around them. As a baby, Wynn was born with developmental delays, and according to the rules, she was supposed to be abandoned in the woods. Instead Elrics mother saved his sister and hid her away for eleven years. They live in secret and fear of being discovered, yet their home is full of love, laughter, and singing. Wynn and Elrics favorite song is about the Silver Gate, a beautiful fairy realm where all children are welcome. But when their long-absent father returns to sell Wynn to the Lords castle as a maid, Elric realizes that folk songs and fantasies cant protect them from the outside world. They have to run away. Still Wynn believes theres only one place theyll ever be safe, and it lies beyond the Silver Gate. The road to freedom is long and treacherous. If they have any hope for survival, Elric and Wynn must learn to depend on each other above everything elseand discover the magic that always reveals itself when it seems like all is lost.

Almost forgot to mention that I finished this book last night. I talked about it in the last episode of our #podcast, Bookish Impulses. Find it anywhere you listen to podcasts.
🙂👍🏽
It‘s a middle grade fairy tale story. Not your typical Prince Charming saves the damsel in distress. It‘s about 2 siblings who must run away to prevent Wynn, the sister, from being sold as a slave to their lord. There‘s evil creatures, fairies, changelings and more.

TheBookAddict It‘s part of a series. 2 books so far. I will be looking for the second book soon. 🙂👍🏽 (edited) 2mo
wordslinger42 I love the cover! It reminds me of the artwork for 2mo

TheBookAddict @wordslinger42 it is pretty. I must admit that‘s the reason why I picked it up. You‘re right, the cover for Snow & Rose is similar. Did you read it? Was it good? 2mo

So far so good 🙂👍🏽. Most of the fantasy books I‘ve read start out a bit slow, but this one doesn‘t. Stuff starts happening from the beginning. Quite interesting, let‘s see where it takes me.

This was sweet and really poignant. I loved it for its representation of marginalized characters especially those born with disorders that manifest themselves in various ways physically. This book reminds ppl not to impose their preconceived notions abt ppl onto these ppl.

The book is lovely. #middlegrade

ladym30 Lovely cover! 2y
