You Negotiate Like a Girl
You Negotiate Like a Girl: Reflections on a Career in the National Football League | Amy Trask
5 posts | 2 read
The Princess of Darkness. Former NFL team executive Amy Trask has held many titles during her career including chief executive, analyst, and author but this nickname is what she is first and foremost known by to Raiders fans. Trask joined the Raiders as an intern during law school after the team moved from Oakland to Los Angeles the position the result of a cold call she made to the team. From there, she worked her way up through the ranks of the organization, to the post she would eventually hold as chief executive. Along the way, Trask worked extremely closely with the late Al Davis, a man who treated her and others on his team without regard to gender, race, and age. Trask may have been the highest-ranking female executive in the NFL during her tenure with the Raiders, but in You Negotiate Like a Girl: Reflections on a Career in the National Football League," she shares how she found success by operating without regard to gender. Replete with insider tales about being part of the Raiders' front office, behind the closed doors of NFL owners meetings, and Davis himself, Trask's book is a must-read not only for football fans, but anyone who wants to succeed in business."

I‘ve been a football fan almost as long as I can remember. I learned a few interesting tidbits about how the NFL works from Trask‘s memoir, but as a guide for navigating a man‘s world as a woman, this is a complete failure. The prose is repetitive, vulgar, riddled with typos and grammatical errors, her theory on gender in the workplace is patronizing and degrading, and her obsession with Al Davis is borderline creepy.

Alfoster Yikes! My husband is a high school football coach an I learn the most from him! Sorry this was disappointing! 5y
Chelleo Sounds like a train wreck 😕😧 5y
Leftcoastzen Wow , don‘t hold back , tell us what you really think.😀 5y
DGRachel @Leftcoastzen 🤣🤣 My Goodreads review is worse, if only because I had a lot more characters to use. Book club is going to be tough. 5y

I‘m still hating this book, but at least I have #Bailey to keep me company while she naps and I fume.

This book is making me rage-y, but I have to read it for work. I didn‘t realize how much it would anger me before I started writing notes in it and now can‘t take it to the used bookstore after book club meets. So-if anyone needs/wants books they can cut up and use for crafts-first come first serve to anyone who wants this. I‘ll ship it to you at the end of the month. Just reply below and I‘ll give you my email address.

j.rye This blurb sounds like something I would write. 😂 5y
DGRachel @j.rye I don‘t want it taking up space in my house, but I‘m opposed to throwing books in the trash, as a general rule. I could make an exception if no one wants it for craft projects. 😂😂 5y
BookNAround You can donate it to Julia‘s Coffee (the Habitat for Humanity bookstore and coffee shop) on Wendover. I was told they pulp unsellable books to use as insulation in the houses. 5y
DGRachel @BookNAround I didn‘t know they did that! That‘s so cool!! Thank you! 5y

This is my (unreasonable) proposed #FebruaryTBR. It‘s a combination of books in progress from January, book club picks, Litsy buddy reads, and a few that I just really, really want to read. It‘s a shame I have to work for a living at a job where I can‘t just sit and read. 😂

I really enjoyed this book! While it's a great book for Oakland Raider fans, it is also wonderful to read how a woman can succeed when she works.
