Where the Words End and My Body Begins
Where the Words End and My Body Begins | Amber Dawn
8 posts | 4 read | 12 to read
The first full-length poetry book by the Lambda Literary and Vancouver Book Award Winner. Award-winning writer Amber Dawn reveals a gutsy lyrical sensibility in her debut poetry collection: a suite of glosa poems written as an homage to and an interaction with queer poets,such as the legendary Gertrude Stein, Christina Rossetti, and Adrienne Rich, as well as contemporaries like Leah Horlick, Rachel Rose, and Trish Salah. (Glosas, a 15th-century Spanish form, typically open with a quatrain from an existing poem by another writer, followed by four stanzas of ten lines each, and usually end with a line repeated from the opening quatrain.) By doing so, Amber Dawn delves deeper into the themes of trauma, memory, and unblushing sexuality that define her work.

A quick powerful read for book club this month. I haven‘t read poetry in awhile. It was great. :)

Reading in the stillness of the morning at the cottage. 😍

LA_Mead NICE. We're headed up to the cottage today. 5y
Melissa_J Hope the weather is good. It's pouring rain here - it will be a good day for cottage games like Yahtzee 😃 5y
Bibliogeekery @Melissa_J it's supposed to rain all day here as well. I'm trying to grab the few nice moments of the day outside before I head in for puzzles and games as well. 5y

I read a lot of great books in January, many of them are quite short & I did start a few of these in 2016, but overall I'd call this an exceptional reading month #readJanuary
total = 48
graphic novels & comics = 13
collections of poetry = 10
nonfiction = 9

stayed up late last night reading - I think I got close to 14 hours in reading yesterday - so I decided to sleep in a bit this morning & spend as much time as I can reading today. it feels a bit strange to mark down / record how long I've been been reading, but other than that I've been loving the #24in48 readathon - its such a great excuse to curl up on the couch & read all day long 📚

This book is filled with beautiful poems that spoke to me so much. Amber Dawn has written glosa poems (she excerpts bits from other poems) as an homage to and interaction with other queer poets. Too tired for eloquence. It's just great! #queerbooks #poetry
