Once a fertile and prosperous land, Ile-Rien is under attack by the Gardier, a mysterious army whose storm-black airships appear from nowhere to strike without warning. Kate Elliott tweeted about this book, I was intrigued & boy was she right. About everything. Great world building, an intriguing cast of characters, a steampunk vibe, fascinating creatures and lots of interesting questions make for a great story. Halfway through this one I bought the other two books in the trilogy because I have to know what happens. The books are out of print but if you like Wells (❤️Murderbot) or fantasy, this is a good one.

shanaqui I really need to get to this one -- I loved City of Bones and of course Murderbot. 2y

Did I buy this book because Kate Elliot recently tweeted it has one of the best ‘ships‘ in fantasy? Maybe…ok, I totally did! Easy decision really—it‘s by Martha Wells and her writing is always fantastic.
