The Liberation: Book Three of The Alchemy Wars | Ian Tregillis
5 posts | 1 read | 9 to read
I am the mechanical they named Jax. My kind was built to serve humankind, duty-bound to fulfil their every whim. But now our bonds are breaking, and my brothers and sisters are awakening. Our time has come. A new age is dawning. Set in a world that might have been, of mechanical men and alchemical dreams, this is the third and final novel in a stunning series of revolution by Ian Tregillis, confirming his place as one of the most original new voices in speculative fiction. What happens when there is only duty? What happens when your task is your identity, your entire universe the span of your arms?

Without the clash and clang of metal bashing against metal, the grinding of gears, the whip crack of snapped cables, the violence assumed an almost surreal quality. Her eyes had ridden to war, yet her ears were at peace.

Plenty of great, cinematic action scenes with room for the writers to flesh out character interactions and the larger plot trajectory.

The final book in the Alchemy Wars trilogy, a fun bit of alternate history that moves like a shot. The action is by far the series' biggest strength, but since there's hardly anything but, I can highly recommend checking it out (granted, I haven't read this one yet, so it's possible the whole thing falls apart at the end).
