Flying Without a Net
Flying Without a Net | E M Ben Shaul
3 posts | 1 read | 12 to read
Dani Perez, a secular Israeli working as a software engineer in Boston, has never had trouble balancing his faith and his sexuality--until he meets Avi Levine, a gay Orthodox Jew and sign language interpreter. As they fall in love, Dani finds himself wanting Avi in his life, but he can't understand how Avi reconciles what his religion demands with what his body desires. And although he wants to deny it, neither can Avi. Despite the risk of losing Avi forever to a religious life that objects to their love, Dani supports him through the struggle to find an answer. Will they be able to start a life together despite religious ideology that conflicts with the relationship they are trying to build?

Pickpick

This was such an immersive reading experience. I fell immediately into Dani and Avi's world, and spent a wonderful afternoon following their slow and careful descent into love. This was a sweet, gentle, quiet book; very limited sexual content, but intense discussion about reconciling faith with desire. On that point, there is a large intellectual component, too. I can't say enough good things about this insightful book. A definite reread for me.

My next read, and perfect-on-the-first-try tea in my favorite mug. Enjoying my late start to the day.

Zelma Beautiful cover and I am envious you have Dunkin Donuts. None here in south Louisiana. 7y
bookishkai @Zelma my mug is from my home state of RI; I live in Denver now and we've only had Dunkies here for three years. 7y
Zelma @bookishkris I come close to overdosing on their coffee when I am on a road trip. I used to live in Chicago where there is a DD on every corner; it's like crack. 😆☕️☕️ 7y

#TBRTuesday technically this isn't out until Thursday, but I'm SO excited to read this that I just had to post about it today. It looks like it's going to be intense and awesome, and about a group that is often overlooked in discussions about the queer community. #diversebooks, #queerbooks, #jewishbooks

Cinfhen Sounds interesting & I love the book cover 💕 7y
Soubhiville This is my favorite cover I've seen in some time. Definitely adding to TBR! 7y
