Sandcastle
Sandcastle | Pierre Oscar Levy, Frederik Peeters (Illustrator)

Its a perfect beach day, or so thought the family, young couple, a few tourists, and a refugee who all end up in the same secluded, idyllic cove filled with rock pools and sandy shore, encircled by green, densely vegetated cliffs.
But this utopia hides a dark secret.
First there is the dead body of a woman found floating in the crystal-clear water.
Then there is the odd fact that all the children are aging rapidly. Soon everybody is growing olderevery half hourand there doesnt seem to be any way out of the cove. Levys dramatic storytelling works seamlessly with Peeterss sinister art to create a profoundly disturbing and fantastical mystery.
Praise for Sandcastle:
Begins like a murder mystery, continues like an episode of The Twilight Zone, and finishes with a kind of existentialism that wouldnt be out of place in a Von Trier film. Publishers Weekly, starred review

Sandcastle is a fast 112-page read you won't be able to put down. Cleveland.com
Peeters and Lvy convey some profound, if profoundly unsubtle, truths about the human condition. Weighty stuff, expertly told. The Comics Bulletin

Panpan

So I started and finished Sandcastle today. I saw the movie first a few weeks ago and I actually really liked it so I was excited to give the graphic novel a try. I was disappointed with it and I think the movie conveyed the concept a lot better. A 1 star read for me.

DivineDiana That‘s too bad. 🙁 2y
Bookaholicforlife @DivineDiana it is especially because the movie was pretty good i thought the book would be better. Oh well at least I can still enjoy the movie 2y

Pickpick

Started this graphic novel after watching the Shyamalan movie. A short and profound read, in my opinion, better than the movie. A group of vacationers converge upon a hidden cove to soon discover they are trapped in a place where they age at a rate of two years per hour. What would you do if you and your loved ones had to face, suddenly, a lifetime in a day?

Won't lie, I totally picked this graphic novel up because it was being turned I to a movie by M.N. Shyamalan.

We never know why this happens or why people can get in but not out. It's an interesting read, but it left me perturbed.

mrsh62010 I dunno the story so far, but it sounds like he's talking about death? Death is certainly something you get into but never out of. But like I said I dunno anything else about this story. ::shrug:: 7y
