A #cemetery book for Halloween weekend and #allhallowsread. This is a beautiful black & white photography book of the grieving women statues most prevalent in 19th century Europe, apparently. Beautiful and amazing art in their own right. Both the photographer's essay as well as the foreword by JoyceCarolOates explore how/why such sensual and eerie symbols were the 'designated grievers' of the era. Those cemeteries must be gorgeous outdoor museums.
