Giant Squid
Giant Squid | Candace Fleming

The giant squid is one of the most elusive creatures in the world. As large as whales, they hide beyond reach deep within the sea, forcing scientists to piece together their story from those clues they leave behind. An injured whale's ring-shaped scars indicate an encounter with a giant squid. A piece of beak broken off in the whale's belly; a flash of ink dispersed as a blinding defense to allow the squid to escape-- these fragments of proof were all we had . . . until a giant squid was finally filmed in its natural habitat only two years ago. In this beautiful and clever nonfiction picture book about the giant squid, Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann explore, both visually and poetically, this hidden creature's mysterious life. Although I think this story is a little too information heavy for young children, I have seen firsthand how much they love to see the fold out page that shows the giant squid. I think that this story is cool, and it will definitely be on my bookshelf in my classroom.

This nonfiction book talks all about a giant squid. Fleming actually paired up with a scientist to make this story! I think that the information is a little comprehensive for young children, but I can see children loving the illustrations. The book uses the mystery of the squid to set up how the book is presented.

this book was very interesting to me, because the illustrations extend a text or speak plainly for themselves without the author writing. and the total format of the book contributes to clarify the attractiveness of the book through flipping pages and intensity of the pictures.

I would use as my future classroom, because he keeps the children‘s attention by random pages opening to become bigger. If I was teaching a lesson about the ocean we could go through this book and it is easy to read.

This is definitely one of my favorites! I love the chart fo the Squid in the back that describes all the different parts. It is super simple to understand but also helps teach children more about the squid. It is also very credible because of the sources and who wrote it!

This non fiction book has the most amazing illustrations ever! It makes the story about the squid so much more intriguing because you want to see the pictures! It is all factual informations and in the back they have a diagram of the squid. I think this book would be great for children because it is fun but also has great information about giant squids.

This book is pretty awesome. It is a Robert Sibert Honor Book, and the illustrations and story itself are great for children(pub.2016). It is based on true events and a real creature.
The picture of the giant squid is drawn, but is based off real picture that people were able to get(very informative book). My favorite quote from this book is,
“You examine each piece, questioning and guessing, wondering at the weirdness, of these baffling beasts.“

Illustration- Using the title of the book after already starting the book was a interesting but smart choice.

Robert F. Sibert Honor Book. I loved this book. This was a very interesting read. The title of the book was 4 pages in. Some pages were just pictures. The whole book was a mystery just like the giant squid himself.

Giant Squid by Candance Fleming and Eric Rohman, a siebert award winner, published in 2016 was very interesting to me. I really like how it was based off a real animal and included facts about the animal while making it interesting! I definitely learned without feeling like I was reading a text book or anything like that!
