Burnt Tongues
Burnt Tongues | Chuck Palahniuk, Richard Thomas, Dennis Widmyer
2 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
Transgressive fiction authors write stories some are afraid to tell. Stories with taboo subjects, unique voices, shocking images—nothing safe or dry.Burnt Tongues is a collection of transgressive stories selected by a rigorous nomination and vetting process and hand-selected by Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club, as the best of The Cult workshop. These stories run the gamut from horrific and fantastic to humorous and touching, but each leaves a lasting impression. Some may say even a scar.

Pickpick

Like most short story collections it's hard to rate. I gave it a 3 because some stories were quite amazing to me and others just fell flat, especially after Palahniuk's promise at the beginning that I would be rattled by these stories.
TW for literally everything and anything you can imagine in these stories, which is probably not surprising given the transgressive title applied to this anthology. Enter at your own risk. Prepare to be disgusted!

High school spurred me to hate THE GREAT GATSBY and the stories of John Cheever. I was a fifteen-year-old pimple factory. How was I supposed to swallow the embittered disillusionment of a thirty-year-old Nick Carraway?
