4 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Whether you already love vegan food or need some convincing, YouTube star Laura Miller offers more than a hundred entirely vegan and mostly raw recipes for all people who want to eat deliciously. Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. is the debut cookbook from YouTube's Tastemade star Laura Miller. A soon to be modern classic, Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. will engage your taste buds with strengthening breakfasts (coconut kale smoothies; strawberry chia pudding), easy weeknight dinners (black bean and squash blossom tacos; kale pesto with noodles), crowd-pleasing party food (spicy watermelon gazpacho; buffalo cauliflower bites), irresistible drinks & desserts (lavender turmeric milk; chile chocolate truffles), and many more nutritious, satisfying dishes that are as beautiful and fun to make as they are healthful. Eschewing a strict or dogmatic approach to raw veganism, Laura's self-deprecating humor, candor about issues of food and body-image, and infectious enthusiasm make her the ideal guide and travel companion for people who want to fall back in love with produce or simply celebrate the joy of real, good food.

Tonight‘s dinner: sweet potato curry from Raw. Vegan. Not gross.
It is in fact not gross. An easy recipe for a week night meal.

A weird critique but- Mine doesn‘t look as much like the picture- I think she used Japanese sweet potato which was not specified and I look like I have way more green beans even though I used less than it said… but very tasty

KathyWheeler That looks good. I‘m not vegan or vegetarian but do sometimes eat that way. I‘ll have to take a look at this book. 1y

Recipe 2:Chocolate Avocado Pudding
hardly the first recipe of its kind, this is from 2016 & I remember making 🥑mousse, 🥑eggnog, etc back in my early vegan days in 2008ish. 🥑pudding has made a resurgence recently thanks to the Kardashians. This version is not bad, but it‘s VERY rich and very thick & why does it have balsamic vinegar & tamari??
It‘s passable, but I would never thrust this on guests &then say “haha it‘s 🥑” as the caption suggests.

Sharpeipup Vinegar?? 1y
5feet.of.fury @Sharpeipup right? It‘s a very small amount of vinegar and soy sauce… but why? The salt I understand… and you can‘t taste vinegar under all the chocolate… but then why is it there? And the recipes for the Kardashian version use coconut milk to thin it out and I think what would have been useful here. Certainly more useful than balsamic vinegar 😂 1y
SamAnne Hmm. I could see a splash of balsamic vinegar. I had that to strawberries, including strawberry ice creams. It adds some umami, something that balances the sweet, but you can't tell it is vinegar. 1y

Chelsea.Poole I made chocolate mousse with aquafaba for the first time a few weeks ago. It was good, but I didn‘t let my chocolate cool long enough so it sort of deflated. Have you tried that? 1y
5feet.of.fury @Chelsea.Poole I haven‘t! I have a recipe saved to make vegan marshmallows out of Aquafaba that I wanna do soon 1y
Chelsea.Poole Oh that sounds good! I just made my first “cheese” sauce the other day and I‘ve been eating it on EVERYTHING. It‘s so good. 1y
5feet.of.fury @Chelsea.Poole That sounds delish! I love cashew cheez 1y
Chelsea.Poole I‘m always open to learning easy go-to recipes. If you have any favorites, I‘d love to hear about them ☺️ 1y

Attempted to make sweet potato enchiladas a (cooked) recipe from Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. I made a mess, all my corn tortillas were uncooperative, undercooked & broken. The sauce quite good. I thought it was weird that the filling wasn‘t seasoned, but the sauce did the job. Probably would not make this again, lots of dishes and work for the mediocre result. Recipe is lacking some detail, even her picture doesn‘t look how the assembly describes.

Lindy Is this the first recipe you‘ve tried from the book? 1y
5feet.of.fury @Lindy I think so! I have had it a few years sitting on the shelf, I‘ve got some others marked off to try soon. 1y
Lindy @5feet.of.fury Have fun experimenting. As long as the results taste good, appearance doesn‘t matter much. 1y
