Poring over a dusty hatbox of photographs in her grandmother s closet, Emily Prentice is shocked to discover her father was married to his high school sweetheart before meeting her mother. In the summer of 1968, Jack and Libbie fall in love under the spell of their small town, untouched by the chaos of the late sixties. Though Libbie s well-to-do parents disapprove of Jack s humble family and his aspiration to become a mechanic, she marries Jack a year after they graduate high school. But soon their happiness crumbles as Libbie s mental state unravels and she is drawn to alcohol and drugs. Despite his efforts to help her, Jack loses the woman he loves and is forced to move on with his life. Now that Emily s mother has passed away, Jack is alone again, and Emily grows obsessed with the beautiful woman who had given her father such joy. Determined to find Libbie, Emily pieces together the couple s fragmented past. But is it too late for happy endings?"

Day 13 #JubilantJuly #LostLoves Finding Libbie is a more recent book about lost love where after her mother passes away, a daughter finds out her father was married before and sets out to find his first love. And, even though it's been picked, I had to include my all-time favorite book about lost love and second chances--Austen's Persuasion--because ... Captain Wentworth.. 💜💜💜 #makesmeswoon

Zelma I was planning to buy that edition of Persuasion on the top left but I can't decide if I like that cover or not. 7y
DebinHawaii @Zelma It's different but I really love it. I bought all the Austen Penguin Classics Deluxe covers. ❤️📚 7y
JoRead @Zelma That is a different take indeed 7y
Caryl I cried at the end of Persuasion. ❤️❤️ 7y

Day 15 #AprilBookShowers #badcovergoodbook Two books w/bad covers (different reasons) but good books inside. Finding Libbie-the cover is cheesy like a decades old Lifetime movie promo or an ad for a funeral parlor & the story is much better than the cover lead me to expect. The Bookshop on the Corner-I would have no problem with the cover photo (& its title change) if there really was a bookshop & it was on a corner-but there isn't & it bugs me!😬

mcctrish The bookshop's problem is that they gave it a new name for the North American market #whydotheydoitarewedumb 7y
DebinHawaii @mcctrish Yep--I have complained about that in previous posts! 😆👍 and then they slapped the cover of bookshop to match the bad title change & even after many months from when I reviewed it--it still bugs me! Why they couldn't leave it as The Little Shop of Happily Ever After I will never understand! 7y
Bette Oh! 'Little shop of happily ever after' is so much better! I read it, liked it and found the cover/title odd too. They change the large print covers too and I think they would circ better if they had the same cover as regular print. 7y
Lmstraubie I agree with The Bookshop on the Corner! Little Shop of Happily Ever After is so much sweeter. 7y

A more heartrending look at love than the average romance. A daughter learns about her father's 1st marriage after her mother dies & decides to look for Libbie, his first love. Most of the book is set in the 60s-70s & tells of Libbie & Jack, their love & how Libbie's mental health issues lead to addiction & tore them apart. Tough to read at times, but overall a good story w/strong characters. Review w/cider & cinnamon toast on blog, link below👍📚

javadiva I grew up on cinnamon toast! ❤️ 8y

A little reading over lunch. Curtis Stone's Quick Curry Noodle Soup (with shrimp & tofu) is perfect for a rainy day. The recipe is on my food blog today for my weekly soup event. I'm reviewing Finding Libbie for book tour on the blog next week, so it's my reading for this afternoon to finish it up. 🍴📚🍜 ❤️ #foodandbooks #helloctober #soup
