I had no idea that one 26 December 1862, in the midst of the madness of the Civil War, 38 Dakota were executed in the largest mass execution in American history, less than 75 miles from where I grew up. For the greater inclusion of indigenous representation in my education, this was no part of my education what-so-ever. I have new books to read now. This was revenge, not justice - and Abraham Lincoln was part of it.

so-so

Interesting to see all the different perspectives in this book. They really bring the story together. I feel the Native America voice gets lost in history books in HS. I never realized another war was taking place, during the Civil War. The Dakota wars happen, during the same time period. Can be a bit boring but still pretty interesting.
