Join our plucky Victorian Egyptologist, together with her devastatingly handsome and brilliant husband Radcliffe, in another exciting escapadeThis time Amelia and her dashing husband Emerson set off for a promising archaeological site in the Sudan, only to be unwillingly drawn into the search for an African explorer and his young bride who went missing twelve years back. They survive the rigours of the desert, the death of their camels, and the perfidy of their guides, only to find themselves taken prisoner in a lost city and civilisation. Amelia and Emerson must bravely continue making archaeological finds while doing their best to rescue the innocent... and themselves.

Amelia Peabody and her family travel to the ancient city of Meroë in #sudan to explore the pyramids in the area. Whilst there they are sucked into a mystery which involves an explorer and his wife who were “lost“ in the desert many years ago. They stumble into an ancient civilization and adventure ensues.

1. Long story, but - “Burrito“ haha
2. Tagged - & the title is also the literal premise of the beginning of the book. :-D
3. I try to balance reviews by random people with reviews by people I know/trust, so rarely.
4. Super important, especially if I'm on the fence about buying a book! Not a fan of books that just have a person on them, or where the author's name is huge and the title is tiny. I'm way into artsy covers!

This was a fun romp with the Peabody-Emersons. I loved seeing them back in their element, Egypt. This one was a bit more fantastical than the others so far, playing with the tropes of adventure stories of the time-a lost civilization found, treasure maps, advanced “primitives”, etc, etc. It‘s all great fun, & look forward to the next adventure to come 😊

mrsmarch I love this series...this was the first I read bc I found it at a used bookshop and the title caught my eye. 5y

I've been thoroughly enjoying listening to this series during my commute and this one is no exception, story-wise. The writing and the adventure are just as fun as I remember but the narrator has changed and I'm really disappointed.

Audiobooks for my drive to Las Vegas tonight! If you are looking for a good mystery, these books are great. I've read all of Elizabeth Peters books and the audios are nice for traveling with the family.

Also, I love the Libby app! I got the chance to sit and play with it last night - 3 kindle books and 3 audiobooks from two different libraries. So easy and fun! 👍👍

I think my #favefemalecharacter has to be Amelia Peabody Emerson. The series starts with her as a Victorian "spinster" in her early 30s, she meets and marries Emerson, discovers her passion for Egyptology and archaeology (the woman loves a good pyramid!) fancies herself an amateur physician (the locals call her Sitt Hakim/Lady Doctor) and solves mysteries along the way. Truly a kickass heroine. #augustofpages #augustphotochallenge
