IndoorDame Clearly I‘m going to have to choose (at least) one of those miso recipes to make, they all look delicious 🤤. I‘m so in love with this so far, which surprises me a little because it‘s way more sweet and earnest than my usual fare. 4mo

Karisa It‘s giving me Sarah Addison Allen Garden Spells feels which I love. The premise feels a little off to me (if someone is not into you, leave them alone 😅). But it‘s all done so sweetly with a touch of magic that I‘m a sucker for in books. I feel like this would work for a middle school YA book even. Perfect for Valentine‘s Month!

Deblovestoread If it wasn‘t such a sweet story and one you can anticipate will have a HAE I‘d be up in arms over the dosing with a potion without knowledge plot line. Instead I‘m rooting for Mim to have the education she wants, Kali to have the right to tell her own story, and a relationship foe the math teacher 😊 4mo

mollyrotondo I love Stacey Lee! We've read her fantastic historical fiction, but this magical realism story is just as well written. She knows how to write a YA novel that isn't immature or filled with YA tropes. Cannot wait to continue and to read more Stacey Lee next year! 4mo

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Stacey Lee has a new book coming out this spring! April 23rd...Kill Her Twice, a YA murder mystery noir set in 1930s Los Angeles's Chinatown. Sounds good, as I've enjoyed her recent books. I'll be honest, though. This one keeps putting me to sleep. I'll try to continue but can't promise I'll finish. Maybe it's ALL the scent talk, but I literally keep dozing off. 4mo

Read with #sundaybuddyreads and I just wish I‘d managed a print copy. I‘m doing so little reading right now, school continues to kick my ass and just really need to hold a print copy in my hands to get that reading high I need to survive life 🤷🏻‍♀️ that and this ebook copy was not ff track of the print version so it was lost for a good 2 weeks. Otherwise MS is the Master of suspense and she keeps you guessing #ohwhatawickedwebweweave

Next up for #sundaybuddyreads I will admit I‘m struggling 🤦🏻‍♀️ Melissa‘s chapter is full of complaints ( teenage daughter, work, ex-husband, house falling apart) and I‘m getting ready for school ( setting up a classroom and teaching day 1 after supplying for 20+ years) and helping my youngest unpack from summer job and pack for uni tomorrow. I feel like I might have an anxiety attack - too much caffeine?! 🤔

mcctrish @Prairiegirl_reading my oldest just arrived home from his camp job ( altho‘ his lasts until the end of October ) and he brought all of his clothes home “so he can sort them” and I might start crying because if I thought my house looked like a hoarder‘s who had thrown up, it now looks like a tsunami hit that. My husband does not understand why I‘m losing my shit but he‘s had someone picking up after him for 100 years 9mo

mcctrish @Litsi some clever people in the #sundaybuddyreads group explained why the book has important things to say re:end of Victorian Era and commenting on industry etc.. but I can‘t get over how much of Lawrence‘s crap overshadows it ( racism, anti-semitism, anti-feminism - actually it‘s like he hates women ) 9mo

I‘ve accepted an unexpected & last minute teaching gig for September, I will be in a grade 5 class so my reading life may be not as prolific as usual. I‘m reading on my kindle for #sundaybuddyreads so far it‘s depressing on every level. Was this a scandal when it came out? It seems like all references to it allude to that. D H Lawrence was a bit of a woman‘s sexual awakening kind of author though, yes?

The May Book (Classic Reprint) | Mrs. Eliza Davis Aria

May was actually a great reading month for me! I managed to finish 12 books total & keep up with/complete challenges for #PemberLittens & #SundayBuddyReads & #TitlesAndTunes as well as my work book sections (1 is finished, 2 are in progress carrying over to June.) I finished my virtual foodie book club read & managed to get 2 new books in series read for #SeriesLove2023 My favorites were the top row, all of which will likely make my year‘s best.
