I got really hooked into these characters 3 books ago. That feeling has not diminished with book 4. I will continue reading these.

I enjoy this series but my favorite part might be the cover art.

Reading time in the North End.
Today's book bestie is getting ready for the train to leave (behind schedule).
I really thought this was well done. There is a lot of this Sri Lanka in the 1980s lit turning up in the lit prizes over the past couple of years. Or maybe they were always there and I'm reading more of the selections.

I really liked this when I was reading it. A young girl is kidnapped from the side of the road near a berry field in Maine. It's told from the brother that feels guilty about losing her and the girl herself who is basically gaslit by the new mother. My new book club (did I need another) picked this. I love the cover.

This is really cute. In a way, it's a bit fluffier than the first. But it's still funny.

This is basically a long short story. I'm interested enough to read other books by the author but the story itself was just ok.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
This is a very cute novella. A tea monk and a robot meet in the forest....
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
This is good. But the author buries the interesting stuff about halfway through. And that's too long to wait in a 600+ page book imo. Not actually recommending. If you choose torture, that's on you.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
This caught my attention because the Europa edition cover is beautiful IMO. That is not what I have here. But I am so interested in the mermaid myths that turn up in various cultures across the world. This one is lovely. And an audiobook read with a Caribbean accent? Yes, please!
This was just ok. The author spends too much time ruminating over stupid life choices when she could have written a decent travel memoir. I saw this in an airport and it ended up on my library wish list.
Getting close to finishing my book nemesis. How did a 600+ page book only get interesting at about the 45% mark? I sort of hate this book. But it's also quite good.
I love this author. This is on the level of the missing trees imo. This is basically about a tribe in the Levant. But it is also about water. I feel like I learned things but the story is also amazing.

This book is amazing. I'm glad it won the Booker. And beat all of the other Pauls. We read the Booker winner every year in IRL book club and I think this might be slightly less depressing than the previous 2 years. Jk. 😂

Today is National Bring Your Doorstop to Work day so I'm working on my arm muscles as I commute.
This is one of my favorite contemporary French authors. The books are pretty fluffy but they're entertaining and easy to read.

The author referred to this as steampunk WWI. And there's something brilliant about it. There's the end of the Victorian era bumped up against the 20th century. People are into seances. There's trench warfare and no mans land and shell shock. It's all very surreal and the author ran with it.

This author has a way of putting things together and explaining them so coherently that I often wonder why I didn't piece everything together myself. It all just makes sense when you follow her thought path.

This is beautifully written. I would never have found / read this on my own.

Definitely too early to call but this is definitely in the running for most favorite book of 2024. This is a Huck Finn retelling from another perspective. It's magic.
Does anyone else love this author's name?

I love this series. Supposedly this is the last book. This is book 11.

I'm totally in love with this book. Steampunk WWI is how the author referred to it. We're currently waiting for an orange line T train.
My current book bestie wandered through the TD Garden this evening. 🖤💚 Boston
Today my book bestie and I are catching some sun on the train.
This book is so freaking interesting. The author gives detail of working for Salomon Brothers in the 1980s right as they were at the apex but about to fall apart. My co-op somehow snuck this into her development reading.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
I enjoyed this quite a lot. The author facilitated an interview with the woman from Japanese Breakfast at the National Women's Conference. And it was available at the library....

Today's book bestie will be played by this gorgeous gem that I haven't started yet.
This gem is back to its old tricks (commuting). Seen here with the enormous pile of stuff I "needed" to take to the office today.
This is a great mix of fantasy and murder mystery. I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

This is an early book from this author. Totally enjoyable. Added bonus is a pet pygmy hippo living in the family's garden.

I thought this was great. And it's possible that I might be inclined to eat (even more) vegetables. I actually didn't read the blurb before starting and was under the impression that this was some sort of memoir. Wrong.

I honestly liked this a whole lot more than I expected.

Today's book bestie is this gem I took off my co-op. Seems interesting so far.
This is quite good. The author takes a historical fact and writes a story around it. It's like an adult version of Stacey Lee. It isn't cheerful, but I recommend it anyway. Read for my IRL book club.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
This was fine. But there are other spy thrillers out there that I liked a whole lot more. Like James Rollins, Steve Berry, Ted Bell. Basically glad I got this out of my holds even though it seems to have lost its hype.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
I loved this. It's like most of the author's books I have read in that you get sucked into the characters and it feels like a nice warm hug. Highly recommend.

What if the Civil War never happened in the US? And 4 states still had slavery in the modern era. That's the premise. Somewhere in the middle I started to think this was actually about sweatshops and taking advantage of cheap labor for cheap goods. But no. That's just me. Soft pick.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
This author always has something smart to say. In this she starts by relating what it was like for her as a young white woman living in San Francisco and some of her early experiences in publishing. How it is sometimes hard to have a voice and be taken seriously.

Me and my current book bestie are sitting on a train with "mechanical issues" in a snow storm. In April. Should have stayed in bed.
