This is a stunning novel. Devastating & heart-wrenching but beautiful and haunting

First romance in a LONG time. Interesting, kept me wanting to read. Needed something light & fun. This totally fit the bill!!

I wanted to love this book...but alas I did not even finish it. The dialogue is true to how Jamaican dialect sounds, but there were more than a few times when I couldn't understand what characters were saying. It pulled me out of the story

Enjoyed the first section set in the present from the adult daughter's perspective. Was jarred by the 2nd section when it shifted to the past to tell her mother's story. Skimmed through it to the 3rd section.

I can't describe how much I wanted to like this book. I first heard of it in a BuzzFeed "Watch Out For" list a few months prior to publication. Then my favorite podcast raaaaaved about it. But...I just couldn't get into it. It's not my first book without quotation marks, but unlike others (flew through Plainsong) it didn't flow for me.

Highly recommend! Such an interesting book about a little-known piece of history. Saw Min Jin Lee on book tour, such a gracious person.

A slim novel. The chapters were short, no word was unnecessary. Read it in a few hours

I liked the title story but couldn't get into any of the others. The writing was solid, I think it just wasn't my style.

A Little Life: A Novel | Hanya Yanagihara

This 814-page book was a bit slow to start, but once I got to about page 200, I just cruised through the remaining 600. This book is tragic, messy, complicated & gets at the core of humanity's ability to condemn, torture & redeem. 💯% recommend

From Mark Bowden's essay "Tales of the Tyrant." Hitting a bit too close to home right now...

A wonderful book about the 2008 financial crisis that deals with immigration (very topical considering our political climate), families, love, loss & makeup.

Such a beautiful, haunting novel. Whitehead is a master of words. I learned more in ~300 pages than US history class.
