Protag: Allan McBride
Problem: Shellshocked by war, McBride decides to run away from the battlefield.
Resolve: He is reunited with comrades but is sentenced to death for desertion.

gab_the_drawer Continuation of summary: Allan McBride deserts the military and battlefield after witnessing multiple gruesome deaths, including his close friend. After wandering away from the battlefield he meets a group of other deserters, namely Canadian, and befriends them. The friendship continues but becomes a betrayal. McBride after making his decision, leaves and turns himself in and awaits execution by firing squad. 4y

Protagonist: Sam Fredriksen
Problem: To survive the harsh conditions he and prisoners underwent in Germany.
Problem resolved: Surviving through pure confidence and integrity.

gab_the_drawer Continuation for summary: Sam Fredriksen joins war as an airman. During one of his missions he and his crew get shot down over France. In France he participates in multiple French Resistance movements against Germans. But after doing so he was lured and captured by the Germans and sent to a prison camp, where he and fellow P.O.Ws would spend the rest of the war. 4y
