This has become my favorite book over the course of years. I love that it reads as if it were a series of oral histories, and brings Middle Earth to life as a real mythology. The stories of Beren and Lúthien, the children of Húrin, and the fall of Gondolin are my favorite stories, and combine hope and hopelessness to make the world resonate.
