An absolute must read classic of Sony Liew's sharp take on Singapore's history uniquely weaved into the biography of a comics artist and skillfully incorporating the history of comics as well. The illustration styles were varied and beautiful.

A masterpiece. I was absolutely engrossed in the stories of the various diverse characters as their lives intertwined in amazing ways across decades. The author was able to bring out many poignant themes and cast the characters in Singapore's unique historical and cultural settings.

A moving story about a young girl's determination towards her goals against all odds captured in a beautiful South-east Asian setting. A worthy literature text of my childhood education.

The stories were very succinct but some of the learning points of the fables were not persuasive and seem forced.

My childhood favorite. The memories of the characters and themes of friendship and loyalty still remain vivid in my mind after many years.

A fantastic read. I was totally drawn into the plot and the story was told in a refreshing way. I liked the author's style so much that I rushed to get a second book from him.
