Picked this up with some birthday money. Good so far...
Reading this to my 8 year old and loving it.
I didn't realize I was reading a sequel at first and perhaps that would have mattered. I love his word choice and writing. He makes horror painfully beautiful and that was like reading poetry. However, the story just didn't go anywhere. The last 15 pages some action showed up and the end was bad-ass, but it wasn't enough of a pay-off for me.
This book was dull to read but had some interesting information.
This book was sad and a little depressing. It did not hold my interest through most of it. The beginning was amazing and so was the last 5th or so, but the middle was a desert for me. His other book, "God is dead", was so good I still think about it years after reading it.
An absolutely fascinating look at diet and food culture in the US for the last 100 years. Recommended if you enjoy history and nutrition...and food. :)
Rereading this while I wait for my on hold library books.
Wow, I devoured this book in one day! A quick read. As a fledgling atheist, I really enjoyed Seth's story. So much of it resonated with me. Recommended for anyone who grew up fundamentalist Christian and has doubts or is apostate. You are not alone!
This book is set in my neighborhood. It was really hard to read in parts, broke my heart. An insightful look at growing up black in CA in the 70's and 80's.
