Man, what a bummer. I absolutely adored the remains of the day & was so excited about this one. I struggled to get into the characters or their experiences, just seemed dull & one note to me. I finished it because I thought the premise was interesting & he does have a smart way of writing that gives little nibbles about the secret that keeps me reading. I feel like I‘m missing something, I‘m partway through buried giant & feeling similarly...

So far absolutely engaging! Great storytelling to support changing our habits, plus the research & whys. Highly recommend so far.

Gobbled this one all up on Sunday! Fantastic mystery, fantastic writing, couldn‘t put it down, & I went in with high expectations. Takes you by the hand as the mystery unfolds, sans obvious red herrings or obvious plot holes; you start with the assumption of who killed who, and then go down the rabbit hole questioning who to the end & reveal. Very good.

What an enjoyable, rompin stompin read! One of the rare ones that starts well, but the second half was even better. Great characters, great story, friendship (thank god no romance to ruin it), all the feels, no holds barred, absolutely recommend. Reminded me of a mix between the name of the wind & the blade itself, but the best of both.

Dang, I really wanted to love this one. I loved the idea & liked most of the story, it just felt like it dragged on unnecessarily for me & I didn‘t find the connection to the main characters either. Le sigh. Maybe it was me, I know so many people adored this book.

I didn‘t know anything about this book when I picked it up, but fell for the title & went from there... was surprised not only by how much I enjoyed the book & devoured it perhaps too quickly, but by how much it has stayed with me after. I adored the dialogue, the humor, & the sweetness which made reading about the brutality of awful scared humans manageable. One of the best novels I‘ve read this past year.

This is the first book in quite some time that I wanted to steal as many little moments from my day to get back to reading it. Quite good, it may be a young adult or even children‘s book but I thoroughly enjoyed the story & the characters so who cares!?

At first I was apprehensive this would be another annoying girl character, but so glad I stuck with it. I'm picky about my heroines & so far I like her! Good story, i love that Johansen drops little tidbits about the setting that it's perhaps not just a made up magical universe with nothing to do with ours... intrigued & excited to read the next one, I hope she can keep it up! Fingers crossed

Meh. Read so many rave reviews about this, sounded like an interesting premise, but I just couldn't get into it. Pretty annoyed I kept reading to see how it ended in the hope it would get better... way too long, stopped being intriguing pretty early on. Le sigh

I was surprised how much I loved this book, particularly since the description doesn't sound very interesting, probably why it took me so long to finally read Kazuo Ishiguro. Now I want to read all his novels! I really enjoyed the writing of the book, the unreliable first person narrator. Do not compare to the film, tried to watch it after (& who wouldn't love Anthony Hopkins?!) doesn't compare to the book.

I'm not usually one for apocalypse stories, and I read the back cover of this & put it back on the shelf more than once, but now I am so glad I finally read it! So well written, great characters & interesting story/idea that kept me hooked to find out how it all connected & what would happen to the people in the end. Loved.
